I want to renew my son's Hong Kong Specoal Administrative Region passport which will expire by mid 2021. Right now we are living in Ottawa, Canada. I have filled in the download form ID843 and ID853. Where should we go for the submission and should I book an appointment beforehand.

You need to make an online appointment first and then submit the documents to the Chinese embassy in Canada by post. For the details, please refer to the website of the Chinese embassy in Canada.

Visa Processing Time during Covid
It says it takes 4 business days to process but what about the time for processing because of covid?
If I need to purchase a plane ticket ahead of time, I'm not sure without the approximate processing time.

Linda, actually, I assume it takes one to two weeks for visa processing because of COVID. You can confirm this with the visa center before purchasing the plane ticket.

I'm afraid not. If you want to enter China at present, you need to get a new visa with the PU or TE invitation letter obtained from Chinese government.
