I am a Canadian and want to apply for a Chinese tourist visa. I'd like to know if I need a round trip ticket and hotel reservation in order to get a a Chinese tourist visa. Also, how much is the visa application fee and how long will it take to get the visa ready? Thanks.

1. A round trip ticket and hotel reservation are needed. But make sure you have made an appointment to lodge the submission before reserving them.
2. A single-entry costs $162.15.
3. After submitting all the documents, it usually takes 4 working days to process the visa. Generally, it is advised to make the application 1-3 months before the travel.

You don't need a visa to enter HK if staying there for less than 90 days.

To visit mainland China, you need to get the visa in advance. First, fill in the application form here: cova.mfa.gov.cn; you need to choose the right place you are going to lodge the application. Then, make an appointment to submit the form and other requirements. It usually takes 4 working days to get the visa after the successful submission.
