BJ71: Travel from Beijing to Beidaihe & Shanhaiguan Great Wall

Qinhuangdao City in Hebei Province is about 300 kilometers (185 miles) east to Beijing City. Easily reached by high speed train and boasted for historical relics and seaside scenery, it is a good destination for a short-distance trip from Beijing. The most popular destinations there include Beidaihe and Shanhaiguan.
  Day 1 Beijing - Beidaihe
Beidaihe Seashore, Qinhuangdao City
With clear sea, soft beaches, and scenic spots, Beidaihe has been a backyard of Beijing for people to escape the summer heat from June to August, watch sea birds from March to May and September to October, and taste sea foods from April to May and September to October. 

 Get to Beidaihe from Beijing:

You may take a morning train from Beijing Railway Station to Beidaihe and G8927 and Y509 are best choices. 

G8927 leaves Beijing South Railway Station at 07:55 and arrives at Beidaihe Railway Station at 10:01. Ticket fare for a second class seat is CNY164.5. 

The special tourist train Y509 leaves Beijing Railway Station at 08:15 and reaches Beidaihe Railway Station at 11:50. The ticket charge for a soft seat is CNY63.5.  

 Stop 1: Beidaihe Seashore 

Upon arrival at Beidaihe Railway Station, you may take bus No. 602 and get off at Luzhuang Nankou stop. Then you can walk southward to appreciate the beautiful scenery and seashore. 

 Stop 2: Lianfeng Mountain Park

Afterwards, take a taxi at the cost of no more than CNY 10 to Lianfeng Mountain Park, a mini forest park. It used to be the royal summer resort in the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911). Standing at the pavilion on the peak of Lianfeng Hill, you can enjoy a panorama of the romantic seashore. The admission fee is CNY25 per person from March to November and CNY5 from December to February.

 Where to Stay Overnight

We suggest you to book a hotel nearby the Dove Nest Park, so you can get up early next morning to enjoy the sunrise. In other days, it’s also convenient to walk to the seaside to appreciate the sea views. Also, you’d better book a room in advance, since all hotel rooms are always in great demand during high season.
Day 2 Beidaihe

 Stop 1: Dove Nest Park 

Get up early in the morning to visit the Dove Nest Park, which is the best place to enjoy the spectacular sunrise and various kinds of birds. 

The park is open from 03:00 to 18:00 between May and September, and from 08:00 to 18:00 between October and next April. The admission fee is CNY25 per person. 

 Stop 2: Safari Park (Wildlife Park)

If you are an animal lover, you can walk westward along the Gechi Road in front of the Dove Nest Park and turn left to the Binhai Avenue to take a bus No. 34 for 4 stops to Safari Park. The admission fee is CNY100. 

 Stop 3: Tiger Stone Park

Afterwards, take a bus No.34 for 8 stops to Haibin Bus Station and walk southward for about 1,300 meters (1,420 yards) to the Tiger Stone Park. In travel high seasons, travelers from all over the world gather here to swim and frolic in the sea, or enjoy the sun bathing. This park is open from 06:00 to 22:00 and the admission fee is CNY8 per person.
Day 3 Beidaihe
Jifa Agriculture Sightseeing Garden

 Stop 1: Bohai Sea Cruise

In the morning, take a taxi at the cost of around CNY10 to the tourist dock to catch the Changcheng sightseeing cruise to the Bohai Sea. The cost of the cruise is CNY120 per person and the duration is about 50 minutes. 

 Stop 2: Jifa Agriculture Sightseeing Garden

Back to the tourist dock, take a taxi to Jifa Agriculture Sightseeing Garden, taking around CNY25. Here, you will see the super big pumpkins, thousands of rare flowers, vegetable planting without soil, tropical plants, butterflies, and many lovely animals. For he adventurers, you can experience the exciting rides in the garden. The suggested visiting time is 2 hours, and the admission fee is CNY20 per person.
Day 4 Nandaihe
Today we suggest that you visit Nandaihe. You may take bus No. 22 or 203 to get there. Just enjoy a leisurely morning on the beach or experience the exciting rides in the Merry Land on the Sea. In the afternoon, you may take a taxi or walk to the nearby Xianluo Island Entertainment Center to have fun.
Day 5 Nandaihe - Beijing

Visit Shanhaiguan Great Wall

In the morning, you may visit the Shanhaiguan Great Wall which is not far from Beidaihe. It is reputed as “No.1 Pass” on the Great Wall of China. From Beidaihe, take bus No. 34 to Sidaoqiao stop, and then change to bus No. 25 to Shanhaiguan Great Wall. You can also get off at Laolongtou on the way to Shanhaiguan. The transfer takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes.

After, you may go back to Beijing from Shanhaiguan directly. 

 Get Back to Beijing from Shanhaiguan Great Wall

At first, take bus no.25 to Shanhaiguan Railway Station, then take a train back to Beijing. Train G380 and K1302 are recommended. 

G380 departs from Shanhaiguan at 13:17 and arrives at Beijing South Railway Station at 15:19. Ticket fare for a second class seat is CNY184.5. 

K1302 leaves for Beijing Railway Station at 15:41 and arrives at 21:52. Ticket fare for a hard seat is CNY46.5 and for a hard sleeper is CNY100.5.
