FAQs on Forbidden City Tours

Can I buy tickets at the entrance of the Forbidden City?

In some cases, yes, tickets can be purchased at the ticket window on the east side of the entrance to the meridian gate. However, you might need to line up since there are always full of people. To maintain the Palace Museum, there is a daily limit on the number of visitors during peak seasons, tickets are easily sold out online during that time and you will not be able to get one at the entrance either. Therefore, we highly recommend you book it online in advance to assure the availability.

How much time is required for visiting the Forbidden City?

The Forbidden City is very large, so it is difficult to visit all in a few hours. However, you can choose how much area to cover according to your time. Normally, at least 2 hours inside is required for the main sites. If you have ample time, you can visit more for 3 to 4 hours in total, or even a whole day if you are really interested in it.

Does Forbidden City open daily?

It opens daily except for Mondays.

Do I need a tour guide for visiting the Forbidden City?

Definitely Yes. The Forbidden City used to be the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties, and it has rich cultural and historical relics. Without a professional guide, you may not be able to understand what you are seeing. The tour guide will explain to you not only the sites, the history, culture, architecture, but also the imperial life of ancient emperors and their families. So, taking a Forbidden City guided tour will definitely make your trip worth.

Is wheelchair accessible at the site?

Yes, it is convenient to visit the main sites along the passage. If you are travelling with wheelchair, we suggest you take a private tour rather than joining a group so that the guide may take good care of you on sightseeing.

Do I have to bring my own wheelchair or I can borrow it at the attraction site?

You can borrow a wheelchair at the entrance with some deposit. However, the number of wheelchairs is limited and it is possible that they have been lent out when you arrive. So if possible, we suggest you bring your own ones or get one from your hotel in advance.

Is it difficult to find a washroom at the attractions site?

Not at all. There are many washrooms inside and you do not need to worry about it.

Is this a good place for children to visit?

As a palace museum, small kids may feel boring but elder ones might be interested in the splendid architecture and the palace stories of ancient China. If you travel with children, a guided tour will make your trip easier. We have kids-friendly tour guides. They know well on how to get along with children, how to explain the sites to draw their attentions. By the way, please keep in mind that it takes at least two hours of walking. If your child is too small, you may consider to bringing your baby stroller, or we can prepare one for you.
