Anshun City

Situated in west central Guizhou province, Anshun is the earliest developed city in the region. Anshun abounds in natural attractions, such as the noted Huangguoshu Waterfall and Dragon Palace. Apart from these most popular scenic spots lying outside, there are also other less famous but equally enthralling places of interest in Anshun city. You can have a leisurely day tour to the White Pagoda on Xixiu hill, the Confucians Temple and the Former Residence of Wang Ruofei. It is very convenient to take a taxi to tour around the city, since the flag-down price is only CNY4.00 net. The taxi fare from one site to another is usually about CNY5.
You may start the day tour from the White Pagoda. First built in the year 1326 of Yuan Dynasty (1271 - 1368), the well-preserved White Pagoda still stands elegantly on Xixiu hill in the city center. It is now regarded as a landmark of Anshun City. The pagoda has eight floors but no door to enter it - it is a solid pagoda built of bricks. The pagoda, covered by white bricks on its surface and decorated with neat and pleasurable sculptures, looks like a simply dressed lady appreciating the city views in a polite manner. When night falls, the beautiful light makes the pagoda shine as a sparkling diamond. The admission fee is CNY20.
Proceed by taxi to your next destination, the Confucians Temple, which is located at the northeast of Anshun City. The Confucians Temple, also called Wenmiao (Wen Temple) is regarded as the most delicate Confucius Temple in China. It was first built at the beginning of Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), so it has a history of more than 640 years. It has been noted for its exquisite layout, mighty scale and well-knit structure. In front of the Great Hall of Confucius, there is a pair of stone pillars with dragons sculptured on them. These two stone pillars are the highlights of the temple because of their extremely delicate and life-like open-carved craft. Experts and artists from home and abroad all marvel at the unique design and vivid sculptures. In addition, the temple has a Batik Art Museum, where you can learn the basic characteristics about batik crafts of Buyi, Miao and Yi minority groups in Guizhou Province. The entrance fee is CNY30.
For the rest of the day, you are advised to visit the Former Residence of Wang Ruofei, which is located at No.174, North Street, Xixiu district, and can be reached by taxi or bus No.6. Wang Ruofei was an outstanding revolutionist during the War of Resistance against Japan. The residence was built by his great grandfather in Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911) with wood, bricks and grey tiles. It is a traditional house of the Qing Dynasty, consisting of the main gate, a corridor, a courtyard, a main house, two wing houses, and two guest houses. There are also exhibits of old furniture, clothes, and photos of Wang Ruofei.
In the evening, you can try the local snacks at the night markets near Gufu Street. We suggest that you have a taste of the local famous rice noodles, roasted tofu, spicy and hot mud snails, roasted lobster, and vegetable roll.

If you want to visit both attractions in a day, you will need to charter a car to take you there. Otherwise, you can visit the Dragon Cave first from Anshun, then go to Huangguoshu Waterfall for an overnight stay and explore the site next day before going back to Anshun.
