We are quite satisfied with the booking service offered by TravelChinaGuide. They do charge a little service fee but it was worth it. We don’t want to take any risk of buying ticket at the station and being told that there is no ticket. We cannot buy train tickets like a local since we don’t have a Chinese bank card and my Chinese is not so good. Just show passport to enter the station and board the train. No need to change paper ticket since the end of 2019, very convenient.

My wife lost her passport on the train to Guilin from Hong Kong, and we had to go to the embassy in Guangzhou to get a new one. Under the help of Candy, we got on the train to Guangzhou even though my wife did not have the passport and we cancelled the tickets of Guilin/Yangshuo/Chengdu tickets that we would not use to reduce the loss. But she also warned me that this method is not replicable.
